Midnight Espresso Smoothie – Vegan

Midnight-espresso-smoothieMy bananas are all green. If you ask me, green bananas do not belong in a smoothie. So, this smoothie is banana-less.

This is perfect for that mid-day chocolate craving. It also has a little hit of espresso to perk you up. I put a little coconut whipped cream and chocolate chips on top to make it pretty for the photo, but you don’t need to be so fancy.

I’m pretty happy with this picture since it was the only photo I was able to take before my battery died. Not bad for one shot.

Midnight Espresso Smoothie - Vegan

  • 3 cups non-dairy milk
  • 4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 tsp espresso powder or two shots of cold espresso
  • 6-8 pitted dates
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 ice cubes
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)

This recipe is vegan and free of refined sugar. I used dates to sweeten it. I recommend starting with 6 dates and then adding more if it’s not sweet enough for you.


  1. Looks so GOOD!! I love chocolate and espresso….one of my favorite combos and thank God for no bananas, haha! I hate bananas and that’s all people ever seem to add to smoothies and I’m sorry, but all it does is make everything taste like banana no matter what you add to it. This looks delicious…definitely need to try it!

      I know what you mean! I love bananas but I don’t want every smoothie to taste like one.

      I agree about the bananas…I get sick of the slime too. I’ve always asked myself why does all smoothies have a stinking banana in it or strawberry. There are other fruits available.
